Hospital Packing List
Though probably not comprehensive, we have tried to put together a list of things you might need at the hospital. Feel free to add your own ideas to the list.
- Labor wear (large t-shirt or nightgown that can get messy)
- Pretty nightie, for 24 hours AFTER birth
- Bathing suit or sports bra for Jacuzzi, if desired
- Bathing suit or shorts and pajamas for partner, defintely
- “Going home“ clothes for mom (think comfy), partner and baby
- Toiletries for mom and partner
- Pillow or other comfort items from home
- Robe and slippers
- For induction – deck of cards, games, magazines, laptop and videos for entertainment and distraction
- Music that helps you relax well, as well as some your favorites for variety
- Focus images and/or affirmations
- Eye glasses and case, contacts and contact products
- Massage oil or lotions that aren’t too strongly scented
- LIPBALM
- Breath mints for partner and tart lollipops for mom
- Sustaining snacks for partner and favorite juices and popsicles for Mom
- Brush or comb and hair ties
- Camera, video and CHARGED battery packs
- List of phone numbers and phone card……..you might not be able to use cell phones in your hospital room
- Baby book for baby’s footprints
- Champagne or sparkling cider for celebration after the birth
- CAR SEAT ALREADY INSTALLED IN THE CAR
- Check www.safekidsmaine.org for local safety inspection sites
- If you are self-paying and trying to keep costs down, also consider bringing: ibuprofen, large or overnight size maxi pads, witch hazel pads (like Tucks), Dermoplast spray, Lansinoh cream and breast pads, newborn diapers and wipes.
